The eyes of the design world will once again turn to Italy this April for the Milan Design Week 2024. The largest event in the program, the 62nd edition of Salone del Mobile.Milano will take place from April 16th to 21st, showcasing the top companies and most creative professionals in the furniture and decor universe. This year’s themes, “innovation and evolution,” promise to guide the event’s agenda.

And, of course, Brazil is set to showcase its creative, sustainable, and innovative power, both inside and outside the iSaloni pavilions. The Brazilian Furniture Project, supported by ABIMÓVEL (Brazilian Furniture Manufacturers Association) in partnership with ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), is taking a significant delegation of Brazilian brands and designers to Milan.

In addition to eight companies that will be exhibiting their collections in a prominent position at the fair, among Halls 03, 10 and 18 of the traditional Rho Fiera Milano, the project team is also organizing a special Design + Industry exhibition (Hall 03 – D21/D23) with 22 brands showcasing 41 new pieces developed in collaboration with national designers through the program

The Brazil Lounge, also in Hall 03, will be the meeting point, in a space specially designed to welcome, interact, and integrate.

“The concept of our booths focuses on the representation of our Brazilian identity, incorporating local raw materials, creativity, and a special emphasis on sustainability, all from a contemporary perspective. Our aim is simple: to highlight Brazilian design and furniture in a way that respects and promotes the values of innovation and environmental responsibility,” explains Cândida Cervieri, Executive Director of ABIMÓVEL and Manager of Brazilian Furniture.

This approach not only reinforces the national industry’s DNA but also emphasizes the importance of sustainable practices throughout the entire furniture supply chain. This aligns with the special focus on ecological transition and space optimization prioritized by the organization of iSaloni 2024, which has announced significant changes such as a complete reorganization of the halls, as well as the introduction of sustainable technologies and approaches.

“The intuitive layout and enriching experience planned for visitors are just some of the improvements that characterize this year’s edition, ensuring a memorable journey through the booths and cultural installations,” said Maria Porro, President of Salone del Mobile.Milano, at a press conference.

In this context, Clarissa Franco, responsible for the management of the Brazilian Furniture Project at ApexBrasil, believes that Brazil’s participation, coordinated by the agency and ABIMÓVEL, “reaffirms the country as a reference in design and sustainability, promoting our talent and productive capacity on the international scene and highlighting once again the positioning of Brazil’s furniture industry, which is the sixth largest producer worldwide.”

Clarissa also recalls the results of the actions promoted by Brazilian Furniture at last year’s iSaloni, which enabled 5,018 commercial contacts, a staggering 193% increase compared to the previous year. The financial impact was also significant, with Brazilian companies recording $36.66 million in negotiations for immediate or prospective business over the following 12 months.

These efforts will be shared with the world through the Brazilian Furniture Project, which, in addition to welcoming visitors from about 200 countries who visit both iSaloni and FuoriSalone every year, also prepares special activities to host the press and opinion leaders not only from Brazil and Italy but also from the United States, Turkey, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Portugal, and other key countries for the national industry, as part of the Image Project.

Beyond iSaloni, the Brazilian Furniture Project also collaborates with exclusive actions in the FuoriSalone circuit, taking place across Milan and its surroundings, further extending its influence and showcasing the diversity of national design and industry. A highlight is the “Coccoloba – Brazilian Exhibition,” organized by ApexBrasil with support from ABIMÓVEL, curated by Bruno Simões.

The exhibition will run from April 15th to 28th, 2024, as part of the INTERNI “Cross Vision” program, the largest exhibition in the FuoriSalone circuit, held at the prestigious Università degli Studi di Milano, a global stage for design and innovation.

Inspired by the Coccoloba gigantifolia, a fascinating tree species discovered in the Brazilian Amazon, known for its large leaves measuring up to 2.50 m in length and 1.44 m in width, and featured in the popular Guinness World Records book, the Brazilian exhibition’s concept celebrates the grandeur and beauty of the Coccoloba. It also reflects on how it adapts and thrives under adverse conditions, serving as a powerful metaphor for Brazilian design as a manifesto of innovation, sustainability, and resilience.

By bringing together the work of 53 national companies and designers at one of Milan Design Week’s main showcases, this action further expands the narrative on Brazil’s potential to influence the future of design with creative and sustainable solutions, harmonizing culture, nature, industry, and technology.
